‌302 chromium-nickel stainless steel (UNS S30200) is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel, and its chemical composition mainly includes chromium, nickel, carbon and other elements. ‌

Mechanical properties and application areas
302 stainless steel has good corrosion resistance, processing performance and heat resistance. It is non-magnetic in the annealed state, but becomes magnetic after cold working. 302 stainless steel is corrosion resistant in many environments, and its corrosion performance is similar to that of 304/304L stainless steel. However, sensitivity to carbide precipitation during welding limits its use in some applications. ‌

Processing characteristics and heat treatment
302 stainless steel can be cold-worked and hot-worked, and is easy to process and shape. In terms of heat treatment, the annealing temperature is 1010 - 1120°C (1850 - 2050°F), and the recommended temperature is 1400°C (1900°F). Rapid cooling is required during annealing at 1010 - 1121°C to avoid chromium carbide precipitation. Welding is best done by resistance or shielded fusion methods and should be annealed after welding if dissolution of chromium carbides is required to provide maximum resistance to intergranular corrosion.
