‌442 ferritic stainless steel (442 stainless steel) is a ferritic stainless steel belonging to the American 400 series stainless steel. Its chemical composition includes low carbon (C: 0.03%), high chromium (Cr: 18.00% ~ 19.50%), medium nickel (Ni: 4.50% ~ 5.50%), significant molybdenum (Mo: 2.50% ~ 3.00%) and moderate nitrogen (N: 0.05% ~ 0.12%). These ingredients give 442 stainless steel excellent corrosion resistance, mechanical strength and machinability.

Features
442 stainless steel has good anti-scaling properties and is suitable for high temperature environments (about 1700/1800°F, i.e. 925/980°C). It is often used in furnace and heat exchanger components and some parts in steam boilers. Its impact resistance is between 430 and 446.

Application areas
442 stainless steel is widely used in many industrial fields, especially in oil refining, fertilizer, papermaking, petroleum and chemical industries. It is mainly used to manufacture heat exchangers, condensers, pipes and high-pressure vessels to cope with environments involving high chloride content and extreme working conditions.
